CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Penn College swept Wilson in United East baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats claimed an 8-1 victory in game one before earning a 6-5 victory in game two. Penn College improved its record to 7-1 in conference play, 13-10 overall while the Phoenix fell to 3-4 UE, 5-17 overall.
In game one,
Penn College scored the game's first five runs to build its lead early.
Brandon Shane put the Wildcats on the board in the second inning with an RBI double to score
Jaydon Goebel and
John Croasdale followed with an RBI single to send in
Matt Munoz.
Dallas Griess added to the lead with his second home run of the season in the third inning. Penn College pushed across two more runs in the sixth and three in the eighth to earn the victory.Â
Shawn Townsend led the offense with a three hits including a double while Griess, Munoz, Shane and Goebel all finished with two hits.
Griffin Vollman pitched six strong innings to earn the victory with five Ks and just three hits surrendered.Â
In game two,
After Wilson struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third, the Wildcats responded with a four-spot in the fifth inning when Shane doubled to score Munoz and Goebel.
Jaiden Augustine followed with an RBI single in the next at-bat which scored Shane and Griess singled to bring in Augustine. The Phoenix tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth inning before Croasdale drove in two runs with a single in the ninth.Â
Dillon Gallagher closed out the bottom of the frame to earn the victory on the mound. Griess, Munoz and Croasdale all finished with two hits while Goebel and Munoz both scored twice.Â
