WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Penn College claimed the opening set victory in a 3-1 setback at Wilkes in nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats fell to 1-11 on the season while the Colonels improved to 7-3.
How it happened: Fueled by a .324 hitting percentage, 14 kills and four aces to begin the match, the Wildcats secured their first set victory, 25-20 in a tightly contested opening frame. It was the Wildcats' first set win since defeating Baruch College on August 30. Wilkes bounced back in the second set by a score of 25-9 before finishing the match in four sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-19.
Inside the box: Lilly Stockum scored her first career double-double with a team-high 14 kills and a season-best 12 digs to lead the Wildcats.
Ellen Banfill pitched in on the offensive side with five kills and a season-best 25 assists while also scoring a season-high with nine digs on defense.
Up next: Penn College returns to Bardo Gym on Saturday, Sept. 20, to host Cheyney and SUNY Morrisville for a nonconference tri-meet beginning at 11 a.m.
