Penn College knocks off Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — In a nonconference men's lacrosse season opener for both teams at Susquehanna University on Saturday, Penn College came back in the final quarter for a 16-15 win. The Wildcats improved to 1-0, while the River Hawks fell to 0-1.

The lifetime series between the two teams is tied at 1-1, as Susquehanna won the first meeting 21-12 a year ago.

How it happened: Penn College outscored Susquehanna 5-4 in the opening period with Owen Kupsey finding the goal three times. The River Hawks opened a 9-7 halftime lead before the Wildcats pulled back to within one at 12-11 after three quarters.

In the fourth, Aidan McFalls tied the match at 12-all with 13:59 left, and Elliot Dotson gave Penn College its first lead at the 11:53 mark. After a tie at 13, goals by Ian Edinger and Dotson put the Wildcats in front by two with 9:14 left. A Wildcat goal by Jesse Weick maintained the two-goal lead with seven minutes left, and the defense limited Susquehanna to one goal down the stretch for its victory.

Inside the box: Kupsey finished with seven goals, Dotson added three goals and four assists, and McFalls had four goals. Antonio Santora was 10 of 21 in faceoffs. Ryan Twist made 10 saves in the goal for the Wildcats.

Up next: Penn College hosts Juniata College in a nonconference match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
