WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College swept its nonconference softball doubleheader against Penn State Altoona Saturday afternoon at the Williamsport High School Softball Complex. The Wildcats earned a 2-0 victory in game one before cruising to a 9-2 win in the second outing. The Wildcats improved to 9-1 while the Lions dropped to 10-8 overall.
In game one,
Mackenzi Tice shined in the circle with 12 strikeouts and just three hits in her fourth shutout victory of the season (6-0). The sophomore ace became the fifth Wildcat to eclipsed the 200 career strikeout mark with her eighth K of the afternoon to end the third inning.
Crawford posted two of the Wildcats' six hits and scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning on a double steal.
Ryleigh Rinker drove in the second run in the sixth inning with an RBI single to score
Taylor Brown.
In game two, the Wildcat bats heated up after the Lions took an early lead in the first, PCT responded to tie the game in the second frame when
Astyn Calaman scored on a
Harley Kunes grounder. Altoona earned another run in the top of the fourth, but a five-run bottom half handed the Wildcats a 6-2 lead. Tice and Mileto both hit triples that led two three runs scored.
Sam Shaw and
Carissa Lusk also contributed with RBIs.
Calaman led the offense with three hits and scored twice while Mileto and Tice both earned two RBIs.
Laney Wilson picked up her third victory in the circle.
Up next: Penn College faces a six-series road trip starting at Juniata on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
