Wildcats win 10th straight

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Penn College swept Juniata College in a nonconference softball doubleheader Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 11-1 after a 3-1 win in game one and a 10-0 run-rule victory in the nightcap.

In game one,
Sofia Mileto gave Penn College a 1-0 lead when she touched home just before Astyn Calaman was caught in a run-down at second. Sam Shaw's sacrifice to right in the second made it 2-0 before Juniata pulled with one, 2-1, with a run in the third. Ryleigh Rinker launched a solo shot in sixth to give the Wildcats an insurance run.

Mileto, Rinker, and Carissa Lusk all picked up a pair of hits, while Mackenzi Tice improved to 7-0 in the circle. Tice allowed one earned run, on five hits, with three strikeouts, and two walks.

In game two,
PCT set the tone in the first inning with six runs as Calaman hit a two-run double to left, Harley Kunes brought in a pair on a double to right, Tice added one on a triple, and Sam Shaw brought in another run with a single to right. Taylor Brown's homer to left in the second made it 7-0, Crawford smacked a two-run homer in the third, and an error in the fourth brought in the final score.

Tice led the offense with three hits, while Crawford and Rinker each picked up a pair. Alivia Bizzarri improved to 1-0 after five innings of work. She fired a two-hit shutout, with one strikeout.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Thursday, 3 p.m., at Gettysburg.
