WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College swept Penn State Berks in a United East softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Lumber Yards. The Wildcats scored a 9-0 run-rule victory in game one before securing a walk-off 3-2 victory in game two. PCT improved to 6-0 UE, 21-3 overall, the Lions dropped to 4-6 UE, 6-14 overall.
In game one,
Mackenzi Tice was one walk away from a perfect game, shutting down the Lions with 11 Ks before the offense picked up with five runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to complete the run-rule win.
Taylor Brown, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored got the Wildcats on the board with a single up the middle to score
Payton Crawford.
Harley Kunes also racked up thee hits and three RBIs including the game-ending two-run double in the sixth inning.
Carissa Lusk and
Alivia Bizzarri both posted a two-hit game at the plate.
In game two,
After Berks struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning, the Wildcats got on the board in their second run through the lineup as
Carissa Lusk reached on an error before
Sofia Mileto blasted a triple to score Lusk and Crawford brought home Mileto with a single. Deadlocked at 2-2 over the next four innings, Crawford put the pressure on in the bottom of the seventh with her third hit of the game and moved around to third on a wild pitch and a ground out. Brown sent Crawford home for the second walk-off of the afternoon with a single to right field.
Mileto also finished 3-for-4 at the plate and
Ryleigh Rinker collected two hits. Bizzarri got the start in the circle and struck out three before Tice came in to get credit for the relief victory after six more strikeouts and improved to 13-1.
