Wildcats Double Up Giants

Tice Reaches 300 Career Strikeouts

La PLUME, Pa. -- Penn College defeated Keystone with two run-rule victories in a United East Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 10-2 UEC, 25-2 overall while the Giants fell to 3-11 UEC, 5-19.

In game one, 
Needing just nine strikeouts to become the third Wildcat to reach 300 career strikeouts, Mackenzi Tice did so and more with 11 Ks in a 9-0 one-hit shutout. Payton Crawford belted a two-run home run in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead and Taylor Brown hit a solo homer to start off the fifth inning before Carissa Lusk scored Ryleigh Rinker, and Sofia Mileto hit a three-run triple to put the run rule in effect. Tice finished the game with three Ks in the bottom of the fifth for the victory.

Mileto finished with three hits and five RBIs and a run scored to produce six of the team's nine runs. Lusk, Rinker, Astyn Calaman and Sam Shaw all finished with two hits.

In game two,
PCT saw 12 batters step to the plate and scored seven runs in the top of the first inning as Brown hit her second home run of the afternoon to give the Wildcats an early three-run lead. Calaman, Shaw and Lusk also posted RBI singles in the frame. After Keystone got a run back in the bottom of the first, The Wildcats scored seven more runs with six in the third and one in the fourth to take a 14-1 lead. 

Brown, Rinker, Kunes and Shaw all finished with three hits in the nightcap. Laney Wilson picked up the win in the circle with four innings of work. Tice added two more strikeouts in one inning of relief.
