SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- Penn College doubled up Penn State Schuylkill in a Monday evening nonconference softball doubleheader. The Wildcats scored a 9-1 (6 inn.) victory in game one and needed an extra inning in game two to win 7-3. PCT improved to 15-3 on the season while dropping the Lions to 9-9.
In game one,
Penn State Schuylkill scored their lone run in the first inning and held on until the Wildcats exploded for a seven-run fourth inning.
Payton Crawford started the fourth with a leadoff single and later scored on a
Harley Kunes single to center.
Ryleigh Rinker scored on a wild pitch while Kunes and
Mackenzi Tice scored on an error later in the inning and
Sofia Mileto blasted a bases-clearing three-run double to extend the lead to 7-1.Â
Rinker and Mileto both crossed the plate in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively to force the six-inning run rule win. Mileto collected two hits and the plate, drove in three RBIs and scored once. Rinker and Kunes also picked up a pair of hits in the win. Tice struckout eight in the complete game victory.Â
In game two,
The Wildcats struck early in the top of the first inning when Rinker's RBI single scored
Carissa Lusk.
Sam Shaw added to the Wildcat lead in the fourth inning with a sac fly to score
Taylor Brown and Alivia Bizzzarri's RBI-single scored Kunes, extending the lead to 3-0.
Schuylkill tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run home run before the Wildcats plated four runs in the top of the eighth and Bizzarri shut down the Lions in the bottom of the eighth for the victory.Â
Crawford, Brown and Rinker all had two hits in the win. Brown posted two RBIs and Kunes scored twice. Bizzarri earned her second win in the circle with a complete-game effort striking out two and scattering four hits.Â
