Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College did a little sweeping in its home Wednesday as the Wildcats swept a United East softball doubleheader against Penn State Abington in their first contests at the Lumber Yards. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 UE, 17-3 overall, after a 10-7 win in game one, and a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
In game one,
Penn College did all of its damage with a four-run third inning and six runs in the fourth. After Abington scored the opening run in the top of the fourth, PCT jumped on an Abington error to begin the bottom half of the inning.
Harley Kunes reached on the error and scored on an RBI single from
Alivia Bizzarri.
Sam Shaw walked and scored on a
Carissa Lusk double and
Sofia Mileto drove in Bizzarri with a sac fly to lead 3-1.
Payton Crawford finished off the frame with an RBI triple before being gunned down trying to leg and inside-the-park homer for a 4-1 lead.Â
The Wildcats continued the high-powered offense in the fourth with runs scored by
Taylor Brown, Shaw, Rinker, Lusk, Bizzarri and Mileto to lead 10-2. Abington did not go quietly as a five-run fifth inning pulled the Lions within three, 10-7 but managed just one baserunner in the sixth and seventh innings.Â
Bizzarri led the offense with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored while Mileto was also responsible for three RBIs and a run scored.
Mackenzi Tice picked up her 10th win of the season with eight Ks in a complete-game effort.Â
In game two,
After the Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Wildcats answered in the bottom of the inning when Brown's single drove in a run and Kunes made it 2-1 with a double to right.
Arista Fine's single in the third gave PCT a 3-1 advantage before Abington pulled within one, 3-2, in the fourth. Lusk's triple in the fifth plated two runners.
Lusk, Crawford, and Kunes all picked up three hits for the Wildcats, while Lainey Wilson improved to 4-2 after a complete-game performance in the circle. She allowed two earned runs, on eight hits, with no walks or strikeouts.
