ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn College defeated Penn St.-Altoona 3-1 on Tuesday. The Wildcats scored twice in the first half and finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots, including 10-6 on goal. The Wildcats moved to 4-0 overall. Penn St.-Altoona dropped to 1-4-0 overall.
How it happened: The Wildcats struck twice in the opening 10 minutes, with
Lily Persing scoring at 7:58 off
Makayla Bucks' assist and again at 9:36 from
Sierra Klinger's pass for a 2-0 lead. The goals followed two saved shots from
Camryn Lobb, and
Harley Oliphant made two saves later in the half. Penn St.-Altoona pulled within 2-1 on Chloe LaRosa's goal at 39:28, but the Wildcats took that lead into halftime.
Persing scored from Lobb's assist at 49:02, extending the Wildcats' lead to 3-1 early in the second half. This marked the first time this season that Persing has scored three goals in a game. PCT kept pressure on later with three-shot stretches from 64:54 to 67:37 and 77:47 to 82:14, while
Harley Oliphant made three saves after halftime. The Wildcats closed out the second half without allowing a goal and finished a 3-1 win.
Inside the box: Persing scored her first career hat-trick on three shots on goal. Lobb recorded an assist and put both of her shots on frame. Bucks added an assist and two shots, one on goal.
Harley Oliphant made five saves in net.
Chloe LaRosa scored Penn St.-Altoona's goal and finished with three shots, including two on goal. Kira Trexler recorded an assist and also put two of her three shots on goal. Mya Torres made seven saves in net.
