Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet held off a late Penn College run in the second half to secure a 69-61 win over the Wildcats in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Bison improved to 1-0 overall, 1-0 NEAC, while PCT fell to 0-1, 0-1.
Alicia Ross filled the box score with 19 points, six assists, seven rebounds and five steals for the Wildcats.
Jamie Steer pumped in 18 points for Penn College and
Charese Bova added 12.
Zamica George netted a game-high 23 points for Gallaudet and Lane Peters recorded a double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds.
The Wildcats took an early 5-2 lead after Ross opened the game with a three before Bova followed with a layup, and took their final lead of the game after Steer's layup at 17:16 gave Penn College a 7-4 advantage. The Bison answered with a 20-7 scoring run, spanning eight minutes, to take a 24-14 lead with 9:23 left before the break. The Wildcats fought back and got within a score three times in the final three minutes, the final one coming after a pair of Ross free throws made it 37-35 with 29 seconds left in the first. GU took a 39-35 lead into the break.
After a Gage layup gave the Bison a 47-39 lead three minutes into the second half, the Wildcats made it a two-point game, 47-45, following two layups from Ross and two free throws by
Hannah Schoenly with 14:23 left in the game. Gallaudet padded its lead by 10, 55-45, before four consecutive free throws by Ross and a trey by Steer – in a five second span – put Penn College within one, 55-54, with 7:26 left in the game. The Bison gradually pulled away the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to the court Saturday against Albany College of Pharmacy.
