Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. Penn College women's basketball team started strong en route to a 91-74 win over Briarcliffe in the consolation game of the Panther Tip-Off hosted by Albany College of Pharmacy Sunday. The Wildcats picked of their first win this season and improved to 1-2, while BC dropped to 2-3.
Charese Bova, who was named to the All-Tournament team, recorded her second double-double in as many days with 22 points and 15 rebounds for Penn College.
Jamie Steer netted a game-high 26 points for the Wildcats and
Alicia Ross (17),
Danielle Mowery (14) and
Hannah Schoenly (12) all reached double figures in scoring for PC.
Shemique Hooks led Briarcliffe with 24, Kiara Johnson added 23 and Kalin Mitchell scored 18.
The Wildcats peppered BC from the tip, scoring the game's first nine points. Two jumpers from Bova, one from Steer and a three by Ross put PC ahead 9-0 two minutes into the game. BC netted the next four points before the Wildcats answered with an 18-9 scoring run, capped by Mowery's trey at 12:26, to lead 27-13. Briarcliffe got as close as five, 37-32, at 7:41 before PC eventually took its largest lead of the half, 48-34, after a pair of Ross free throws and led 50-42 at halftime.
Penn College used a 10-1 run to open the second half – including a pair of threes from Schoenly – to extend its lead to 60-43 two minutes in the half. The Wildcats' lead never dipped below 10 the remainder of the game and they led by as many as 24 on a
Gabby Battle jumper at 5:43, which put them ahead 82-58.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 5 p.m., hosting Alfred University.
