Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College couldn't overcome a 15-point first half deficit in a 69-59 setback to Alfred University in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday. The Saxons improved to 2-3, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-3.
Charese Bova scored a team-high 13 points for PC and grabbed a game-best 27 rebounds.
Jamie Steer added 11 points for the Wildcats and
Alicia Ross scored 10.
Emilea Harrison led four Alfred players that reached double-digits with a game-high 15 points. Amanda Off netted 14 and McKaylee Croll and Harley Cleary both scored 10 points. Hailey Sick pulled down 13 rebounds for the Saxons.
Alfred University jumped out a 14 point, 15-1, lead five minutes into the game and led by as many as 16, 22-6, on a Hailey Sick layup with 10:56 left in the opener. Penn College got within nine three times, the last coming on a Bova layup with 3:08 left, and got as close as eight on
Danielle Mowery's free throw with 1:57 on the clock to make it 32-24. The Saxons took a 39-24 lead into halftime.
The Saxons ran their lead to 24, 53-29, with 13:29 left in the game but Penn College responded with an 18-3 scoring run, spanning seven minutes, to get within nine, 56-47, with 8:16 left in the game. Bova and Ross sparked the run with five points each. Alfred later went ahead by 13 and the Wildcats got as close as nine, 65-59, on a
Brianna Carr layup with 3:50 left.
Penn College returns to action Dec. 2 at Elmira College
