Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team played its final two games of its spring break tournament in Myrtle Beach Thursday. The Lady Wildcats dropped both losing 8-5 to Gordon College and 9-0 to Mt. Aloysius College. With the sweep, the Lady Wildcats finish the tournament 3-5 overall.
Against Gordon, sophomore
Katie Kratzer (Lynch Station, Va.) and freshman
Jessica Gmerek (Bellefonte) each had two hits. Penn College put up four runs in the first capitalizing on three walks, two hit batters and an error. Freshman
Brittney McHugh (Frederick, Md.) recorded an RBI in the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Gordon plated a run in the third and tacked on two more in the fifth to tie it up. Sophomore starter
Alexandra Brennan (Saint Clair) came out of the game in the third with sophomore
Delaney Blubaugh (Waynesboro) coming in to relieve for the next inning. Freshman
Brianne Brewer (Jersey Shore) allowed the runs in the fifth. She would eventually record the loss as Gordon went on to score two more runs off her in the sixth before freshman
Arika Stopper (Williamsport) closed out the last inning.
Brewer finished the game with four earned runs and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Also for the Lady Wildcats, Brennan recorded an RBI single in the fifth for the Lady Wildcats.
In game two, Mt. Aloysius stopped the Penn College offense in its tracks as its pitching staff recorded a no-hitter. The Lady Wildcats could only get two base runners in the game as they totaled 12 strikeouts.
Penn College made some costly errors allowing Mt. Aloysius to score four unearned runs in the game. Stopper recorded the loss going two innings with a strikeout. Sophomore
Kimberly Walter (Beavertown) pitching the final two innings allowing only two hits and striking out one.
Penn College next travels to Elmira College on Saturday, Mar. 22 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
