Softball: Stopper and Brewer Pitch Well Against Mont Alto

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshmen Brianna Brewer (Jersey Shore) and Arika Stopper (Williamsport) threw two very strong games but the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team could not get enough offense against Penn State Mont Alto Sunday. The Lady Wildcats lost 1-0 in the opener with Brewer striking out 11 in the outing and 2-0 in game two with Stopper striking out five. Penn College's offense struggled against Mont Alto's Sarah Bortner who allowed only four hits between the two games. With the losses, the Lady Wildcats drop to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

In the opener, the game was scoreless through the first five innings of play as both Brewer and Bortner put on a clinic on dominate pitching. The Lions scored their winning run in the sixth on two singles and walk.

For the game, Brewer sprinkled five hits over seven innings. Penn College totaled two hits in the game, one each from sophomore Katie Kratzer (Lynch Station, Va.) and freshman Macie Lucas (Reedsville).

Game two was almost identical with the first five innings scoreless. Mont Alto plated two in the sixth, this time from back-to-back hits and a sacrifice fly.

Stopper allowed five hits in seven innings of work. Lucas and freshman Jessica Gmerek (Bellefonte) recorded the only hits of the game.

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Scranton for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 15.
