Box Score MONACA, Pa. – Senior Josh Longsderff (Columbia) recorded a win with two strikeouts as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team split a conference doubleheader with Penn State Beaver Friday. The Wildcats dropped game one 9-8 but rallied in game two to win 2-1 behind Longsderff's performance. With the split, the team is now 19-8 overall and 13-3 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
In the team's win, Longsderff allowed only one earned run in seven innings of work. Sophomore
Tanner Kibe (Reedsville) put the team up 1-0 in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. Junior
Zachary Weil (Kutztown) made with 2-0 in the sixth with an RBI single.
Weil was 2 for 3 in the game with a run.
Beaver scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth, but Longsderff and the defense were able to hold off any more runs for the win. In the game, Penn College totaled eight hits to the Lions' four.
In the opener, junior starter
Tyler Cooklin (Rippey, IA) cruised through the first three innings with the Wildcats giving him a 5-0 cushion. Beaver came back though in the fourth, scoring eight earned runs for the lead. They tacked on another in the fifth ending Cooklin's day.
He finished with nine strikeouts allowing nine hits. Freshman
Christopher Glunk (Jersey Shore) finished the sixth with no hits and a strikeout.
After a run in the fifth, Penn College scored two more in the sixth to make it a 9-8 game but were unable to bring another run home sealing victory for the Lions.
The Wildcats totaled nine hits with Weil, senior
Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga), and freshman
Evan Vigna (McAdoo) each totaling two hits. Sophomore
Jeremy Rall (Williamsport) led with two RBI.
Penn College next hosts Penn State Schuylkill on Wednesday, Apr. 23 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
