Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College grinded its way to a 57-48 win over Gallaudet in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats, battling a ferocious Bison press defense, outscored GU by eight points in the second half and improved to 3-2 NEAC, 4-5 overall. The Bison dropped to 2-3, 3-6.
Alicia Ross reached double figures in scoring for the eighth time this season with a game-high 18 points for Penn College.
Charese Bova recorded her seventh double-double this season with 12 points and 14 rebounds,
Jamie Steer added eight points and 10 boards and
Hannah Schoenly finished with 10 rebounds.
Zamica Gage shared game-high honors with Ross with 18 points for Gallaudet and Danielle Warren finished with 12 points. Lane Peters grabbed a game-best 19 rebounds and Elena Ciccarelli pulled down 12 boards.
The Wildcats jumped out to an 11-4 lead, behind six points from Steer and five from Bova, early in the first half. The Bison answered with a 12-2 run and took a 16-13 lead with 7:52 left in the opening half. Penn College rallied to even the game at 19-19, on a Ross free throw, and 21-21, when
Danielle Mowery drained a jumper with 1:22 left before halftime. Ross converted a traditional three-point late in the half to help the Wildcats take a 24-23 lead into the break.
Warren tied the game twice in the second for Gallaudet, the first coming on a jumper with 15:25 left in the game and the second time made it 41-41 with 7:22 left in the clock. Penn College answered with a 12-2 run, sparked by four points from Ross, to lead 53-43 with 3:15 left. The Bison got as close as six points the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m., at Wilson.
