Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn State Abington used a strong second half to knock off Penn College 69-42 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Tuesday. The Lions remained unbeaten in the NEAC at 5-0, 8-1 overall, while the Wildcats snapped a two-game winning streak and fell to 4-3, 5-6.
Jamie Steer led Penn College with nine points, while
Alicia Ross,
Charese Bova and
Hannah Schoenly each netted eight for the Wildcats. Bova also finished with a game-high 18 rebounds.
Janaiah Elum scored a game-high 29 points for Abington and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jessica Schmidt finished with 17 and Stephanie Keyes scored 10.
The opening five minutes of the game saw two lead changes and four ties, the final coming after
Danielle Mowery's layup at 14:23 evened the contest at 14-14. Abington pulled away with a 9-0 run and led 23-14 with 10:43 left before halftime. The Wildcats answered with a 13-0 run, spanning four minutes, to take a 27-23 lead with 6:47 left in the first. Steer led the run eight points, Schoenly netted a three and Ross sank a pair of free throws.
After a pair of Elum free throws tied the game for the sixth time, 29-29 with 3:17 on the clock, Abington ended the half with a 6-1 run to lead 35-30 at halftime.
Penn State Abington outscored Penn College 34-12 in the second half.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting College of St. Elizabeth.
