Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Four players reached double figures in scoring to help lead Penn College to a 96-76 win over College of Saint Elizabeth in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 6-6 overall, 5-3 NEAC, while the Eagles fell to 6-6, 4-3.
Jamie Steer netted a game-high 35 points, two points off her career mark, and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Charese Bova picked up 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds,
Alicia Ross added 21 points and
Danielle Mowery finished with 11 for Penn College. Ross also finished with a game-high nine assists.
Ashley Pledger paced St. Elizabeth with 21 points.
Ross scored half of Penn College's points in the opening three minutes to give the Wildcats a 14-4 lead with 16:40 left in the first half. St. Elizabeth responded with a 15-5 scoring run and evened the game at 19-19 with 12:21 on the clock. Penn College used eight straight points, with Steer netting six points, to hold a 27-19 advantage midway through the opening half. The Eagles outscored the Wildcats 12-3 in the ensuing five minutes and took a 31-30 lead with 4:50 left before halftime. Penn College quickly regained its lead via a 13-2 scoring run, behind six points from Steer, four from Bova and a three by Ross, to take a 43-33 lead with under three minutes left in the first half. The Wildcats eventually took a 46-42 lead into halftime.
The Eagles made it a two point game, 46-44, on a Pledger layup to the start the second half before the Wildcats rebuilt their lead to nine, 57-48, on a Steer jay with 16:57 left in the game. Penn College led by as many 20 points in the second half and its lead never went below five points.
Penn College returns to action Thursday, 6 p.m., hosting Bryn Athyn.
