Box Score UTICA, N.Y. – Penn College surrendered a close halftime lead in an 84-68 setback to SUNYIT in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Sunday. PC snapped a three game winning streak and fell to 7-4 NEAC, 8-7 overall, while SUNYIT improved to 7-1, 9-6.
Jamie Steer pumped in a team-high 24 points for Penn College,
Alicia Ross added 15 and
Anna-Marie Raybuck finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Charese Bova grabbed a team-best 11 boards for PC.
Molly Mactachlan scored a game-high 30 points for SUNYIT.
Penn College gave itself separation after a pair of free throws from Steers gave it an 8-3 lead with 18:03 left in the first half. Bova's jumper at 12:56 put PCT ahead 13-6 before Steer connected from downtown to give her team a 16-8 edge a minute later. SUNYIT battled back to tie the game, 22-22, with 6:31 left in the first, which led to three more deadlocks over the next few minutes. A Steer jumper late in the half gave Penn College a 31-29 lead at halftime.
After the game was tied for the final time, 38-38, with 16:35 left in the game, SUNYIT used an 18-5 run to take a 56-43 lead at the midway point of the second half. SUNYIT went on to lead by as many as 22, while Penn College got as close as 14.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 6 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks.
