Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to knock off Penn State Berks 82-73 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 8-4 NEAC, 9-7 overall, while the Lions fell to 0-10, 0-14.
Alicia Ross led the Wildcats with 23 points, on 9 of 14 from the field.
Jamie Steer finished with 21, and
Danielle Mowery added 16.
Anna-Marie Raybuck and Mowery both grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Shanelle Koch netted a game-high 30 points for Berks and pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds.
The Lions held a slim lead for most of the opening seven minutes of the game before going on a 7-4 scoring surge to take a 19-13 lead with eight minutes left in the opening half. Berks took its first double-digit lead after Nicole Maslowski's trey gave the Lions a 30-20 advantage with just over two minutes before the break. Penn State led by as many as 12, 32-20, before taking a 32-22 edge into halftime.
Penn State took its largest lead, 47-34, at the 15:02 mark before Penn College responded with a 12-2 scoring run to pull within three, 49-46 at 12:21. Ross netted five in the run, while Steer added four and
Hannah Schoenly knocked down a three. The Lions rebuilt their lead to seven, 56-49 with 10:29 on the clock but the Wildcats responded with an 11-4 run – led by Mowery's five points – to even the contest, 60-60, with 7:16 left in the game. Penn College built its lead to five, 70-65, with five minutes left and outscored the Lions 9-2 in the final three minutes to secure the win.
Penn College returns to the court Saturday, 1 p.m., at College of Saint Elizabeth.
