Penn College Drops Two Games

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Penn College opened its season with a pair of non-conference setbacks Sunday in Myrtle Beach. The Wildcats fell to Penn State-Harrisburg, 9-5, and lost to Bridgewater 3-1.

In Game One,

Penn College scored one run in the second inning, two in the third and one in both the fifth and sixth innings. Penn State-Harrisburg crossed home once in the second and third innings, four in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Shelby Lyter started the game for the Wildcats, firing four complete innings, struck out four, scattered four hits and surrendered two runs. Arika Stopper relieved Lyter in the fifth and gave up seven runs (three earned), while striking out four and picked up the loss.

Karey Wolfe paced the Penn College offense going 3 for 4 at the plate and Lyter batted 2 for 3.

In Game Two,

Bridgewater took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning and added one in the sixth inning. Penn College scored one run in the sixth.

Stopper picked up the loss for the Wildcats in one and one third innings of work. She struck out two, walked two and gave up two runs. Lyter came in the second and scattered five hits, struck out one and gave up one run.

Breanna Abbey went 2 for 4 at the plate for Penn College.

Penn College takes on Dickinson College and Iowa Wesleyan Monday.
