WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College swept SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday. The Wildcats, winners of four straight, improved to 4-0 NEAC, 10-7 overall with an 8-1 win in game one, and an 8-3 victory in game two.
In game one,
Penn College took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with RBI singles from
Maddie Wenk and
Elizabeth Asher, and an error that plated
Kelsey Gantz. Cobleskill got a run back in the third before
Taylor Brooks smacked a one run triple to left in the fourth, and Asher scored Gantz with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Brooks picked up her second triple in the sixth to score
Taylor Krow before
Nicole Lo Furno followed with a single to plate Brooks. Wenk picked up her second RBI with single to left to score Lo Furno.
Brooks finished 3 for 4 at the plate, with two RBI and two triples.
Amanda Kustanbauter, Krow, Lo Furno, Gantz, Wenk and Asher all recorded a pair of hits for the Wildcats.
Kustanbauter improved to 5-3 with a complete-game effort. She allowed one run on seven hits, struck out eight and walked two.
In game two,
The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead in the first with RBIs from Gantz and Asher, and a wild pitch that scored Krow. The Tigers evened the game in the third with three runs before Penn College answered with two in the bottom of the frame.
Devin Heimbach's triple in the third scored Wenk to make it 4-3, before Heimbach scored from third on a wild pitch to add another run.
Penn College pumped in three more runs in the fifth on an error, a wild pitch and Wenk's race home following Heimbach's steal at second.
Brooks, Gantz and Asher all picked up a pair of hits for the Wildcats.
Brooks improved to 3-2 after firing all seven innings. She allowed three runs on three hits, struck out 10 and walked three.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m. hosting SUNY Poly.
