UMPI Walks Off Against Wildcats


AKRON, OH – Maine Presque Isle broke a 3-3 deadlock with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning, to secure a 4-3 win over Penn College Tuesday in the ninth-place game of the USCAA Softball National Championship. The Wildcats wrapped up their season at 17-21.

Penn College took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Samantha Hill brought in Elizabeth Asher on single. The Owls evened the game in the sixth, which eventually forced extra innings.

The Wildcats tacked on two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. Taylor Krow's single scored Hill, before Kelsey Gantz plated Krow with a single.

UMPI matched Penn College with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to send the game to ninth inning tied at 3-3.

Eight different Wildcats picked up a hit each, while Asher picked up PCT's lone extra base hit with a double.

Amanda Kustanbauter fired 8.1 innings, allowing four unearned runs, with four strike outs and three walks.
