Rosemont Edges Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College fell 87-80 to Rosemont College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats dropped to 1-1, while the Ravens improved to 1-3.

How it Happened: A Ben Sosa layup with 7:01 left in the game put Penn College ahead seven, 70-63, but the Ravens answered with an 11-0 run to take a 74-70 lead with 3:42 on the clock. The Wildcats pulled within two, 80-78, on another Sosa layup but Rosemont went 7 of 8 from the line to ice the game.

Deadlocked at 32-32 with 2:38 left in the first half, Penn College went ahead 36-32 after layups from Salim Wyche and Mason Bossert. Rosemont scored the next six points and eventually led 38-31 at halftime.

Inside the Box: Sosa led Penn College with 19 points and Carson Garvis finished with 10. Elijah Vazquez grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while Fred Young dished out a game-high 10 assists.

Marlon Sharpton scored a game-high 25 points for Rosemont, while three other Ravens reached double figures in scoring.

Outside the Box: "As a team, I'm proud of how hard we competed.  We never gave up and played until the final horn," Penn College coach Geoff Hensley said. " As we continue to learn and grow together as a team, we will only go up from here.  As a coaching staff, we need to do a better job preparing our players for certain situations.  With a brand new team, we anticipated early bumps in the road and, as long as we learn from our mistakes and put the pieces together, we will be a scary team once we start clicking."

Up Next: Penn College returns to the court Sunday, 1 p.m., hosting SUNY Delhi.
