Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Alvernia Tops Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College fell to Alvernia University, 85-65, in a non-conference men's basketball game Thursday. The Wildcats fell to 1-3, while the Golden Wolves improved to 2-2.

How it Happened: Alvernia led the entire game and gained its largest first half lead, 34-16, with 7:45 left in the first before leading 42-26 at halftime. The Wolves maintained a double-digit advantage the entire second half.

Inside the Box:  Ryan Lockman led Penn College with 19 points, on 8 of 10 from the floor. Ben Sosa notched his third double-double this season with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sosa also added five assists.
Alvernia had four players reach double figures, led by Justin Thomas' game-high 32 points.

Outside the Box: "Alvernia is a very tough team.  We tip our hats to them.  They just beat a very good Oneonta team and battled DeSales to the end," Penn College coach Geoff Hensley said. "I thought our second half effort was much better, but still not at the level we are capable of playing at.  Alvernia's defensive intensity took us out of our offensive flow.  We need to go back to the drawing board and figure out what works best for us.  It doesn't get any easier as Lycoming is up next with Elmira on Tuesday."

Up Next: Penn College returns to action Saturday, 2 p.m., at Lycoming College.
