Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lycoming Outlasts Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College separated itself from 61-60 lead with 2:12 left in the game with a 10-0 run to end the contest and take a 71-60 win over Penn College in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 1-4, while the Warriors improved to 4-1.

How it Happened: Trailing 57-50 with 4:54 left in the game, Penn College pulled with one, 58-57, on a Carson Garvis layup with 2:49 on the clock. Elijah Vazquez kept it a one-point game after he answered a Lycoming College three with one of his own to keep the Wildcats within one, 61-60, with 2:12 remaining in the game.

The first half featured several lead changes and four ties, with the final deadlocking coming a 24-24 with 5:30 left in the half. The Wildcats responded to a Warriors' three with two free throws from Ryan Lockman to stay within one, 27-26, before Lycoming connected from long range with three seconds remaining to lead 30-26 at halftime.

Inside the BoxFred Young led Penn College with 16 points, on 5 of 14 from the floor. Vazquez finished with 11, and Garvis added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Four players reached double figures for the Warriors, led by Dyson Haward's game-high 18.

Penn College outrebounded Lycoming, 48-35, but turned the ball over 20 times, while the Warriors had just nine turnovers.

Outside the Box: "We had a fantastic defensive effort today. Our players were focused on the defensive side for a full 40 minutes and finished plus-13 in rebounding," Penn College coach Geoff Hensley said. "We need to continue to work on the offensive side. We committed too many turnovers and struggled to find our rhythm. We were right there and if a call or two go a different way, the result could be different. Each game, we are learning something new about ourselves. We are getting one step closer in putting it all together each game."

Up Next: Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 5 p.m., hosting Elmira College.
