Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wildcats Clip Eagles

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College erased an eight-point deficit with 6:55 left in the game and knocked off Elmira College, 84-77, in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 2-4, while the Eagles fell to 0-4.

How it Happened: Trailing 69-61, with 6:55 left in the game, Penn College scored eight-straight – on threes from Fred Young and Salim Wyche and a layup by Elijah Vazquez – to tie the game at 69 with 5:02 on the clock. After Elmira regained the lead, Penn College went on a 7-0 run – with five points by Young and two from Vazquez – and never looked back.

The opening 16 minutes saw the lead change five times and the game deadlocked twice, the final one coming with 1:53 before the break with the game tied at 25. A three from Young and a layup by Carson Garvis with 1:02 remaining boosted Penn College to a 33-30 halftime lead.

Inside the Box: Young scored a game-high 27 points, on 11 of 19 from the field, including five threes. Vazquez finished with 19 points, five assists, and eight rebounds, while Garvis added 15 points and eight boards. Ben Sosa scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Three players reached double figures for Elmira, led by Mason Weir's 17 points.

Outside the Box: "I'm very proud of our team effort today.  We competed hard for 40 minutes with great energy," Penn College coach Geoff Hensley said. " It was nice to see our players step up and finish a game like that.  We were down 69-61 and then our guys answered the call.  I'm hoping this is a turning point for our young team as we continue to improve over the course of the season.  We have a fun team that works hard, now that we understand what it takes to win, I'm really excited to return from Thanksgiving break and get back on the court with them."

Up Next: Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Clarks Summit.
