WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College used a 19-7 third quarter to propel itself to a 60-53 win over Bryn Mawr in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 2-5, while the Owls fell to 0-9.
How it Happened: After four different lead changes in the opening eight minutes of the game, Bryn Mawr took an 18-12 lead with 2:13 on the clock. Penn College answered with a 7-0 run – with five points by
Lydia Albert – to end the quarter ahead 19-18. The Owls scored to open the second quarter, and led the entire period and held a 32-28 advantage at halftime.
Bryn Mawr took its final lead of the game, 35-34, with 7:21 left in third before the Wildcats separated with an 11-0 run and a 45-35 lead on
Cassi Kuhns' layup with 5:20 on the clock, and 47-39 at the end of the third. The Owls got as close as three, 51-48, with 1:51 left in the game but Penn College went 7 of 12 from the line to ice the game.
Inside the Box:
Ja'Quela Dyer led Penn College with 12 points, on 6 of 10 from the field. Kuhns and
Tori Wolfe both finished with 11 points for the Wildcats and Kuhns grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Halena Martin led the Owls with a game-high 18 points.
Outside the Box: "After halftime we raised our intensity," said Penn College coach
Britni Mohney. "Our full-court ball pressure from Madison (Klock) and Tori (Wolfe) helped turn that game around and we were able to maintain once we got the lead."
