Cobleskill Edges Wildcats

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Penn College dropped a close 70-60 decision to SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 0-1 NEAC, 1-5 overall, while the Tigers improved to 1-0, 4-4.

How it Happened: Following one tie and two lead changes in the opening quarter, Penn College took a six point, 11-5, lead on Ja'Quela Dyer's layup with 3:54 left in the first, which boosted Penn College to 17-12 lead at the end of the first. Lydia Albert's three with 3:47 left in the second gave the Wildcats a 30-25 advantage before Cobleskill finished the half with a 10-3 run to lead 35-33 at halftime.

Penn College took its final lead, 38-37, on Tori Wolfe's three with 7:22 in the third. Cobleskill regained the lead and held at least a two-possession advantage to remainder of the third. The Tigers led the entire fourth quarter, while the Wildcats managed to make it a one-possession game on several occasions.

Inside the BoxMadison Klock and Wolfe both scored 12 points to lead Penn College, while Dyer added 11 and Albert finished with 10. Dyer grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds.
Nylasia Sutton scored a game-high 24 points for the Tigers.

Outside the Box: "Free Throws are a crucial part of the game and it showed today," Penn College coach Britni Mohney said of her team's 6 of 10 from the line, and Cobleskill's 17 of 26 from the stripe.  "We outworked Cobleskill in every statistical category but free throws -- that's the ball game.
 
"We had our highest assist and lowest turnover game to date and keep making progress.  Our journey as a team keeps climbing and that's an exciting time because we will keep excelling as conference continues."
