Wildcats Edged by Harrisburg

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg used a strong second half to overcome Penn College 73-69 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats fell to 3-7 overall, 1-3 NEAC, while the Lions improved to 5-8, 3-1.

How it Happened: Deadlocked at 9-9, with 2:29 left in the first, Penn College ended the period with an 8-3 run (five from Madison Klock) to lead 17-13. The Wildcats held the lead for most of the second quarter, and led by as many five, 36-31, on Ja'Quela Dyer's jumper late in the quarter before leading 36-33 at halftime.

The opening four minutes of the third quarter saw the lead change six times, and the score tied once, before Penn College used an 8-2 run to take a 51-44 lead on a pair of Keyona Shoff free throws with 1:33 on the clock. The Lions rallied with a 6-0 run to end the quarter trailing by one, 51-50.

Following two ties in the opening four minutes of the fourth, Cassi Kuhns gave the Wildcats their final lead, 56-55, before Harrisburg used a 10-0 spurt to take 65-56 lead with 3:28 left in the game. Penn College got as close as three, 72-69, on a Tori Wolfe with two seconds left.

Inside the Box:  Klock led Penn College with 17 points and Kuhns added 13. Maci Ilgen and Ja'Quela Dyer both finished with double-doubles for the Wildcats. Ilgen scored 15 and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Dyer netted 12 points with 12 boards.

Four Lions reached double figures, led by Anna Mahan's 19 points.

Outside the Box: "Free throws were the difference," Penn College coach Britni Mohney said of her team going 14 of 28 from the stripe. "We let them back in the game because of that."
