MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn College suffered a 74-63 setback to Penn State Harrisburg in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 4-13 overall, 1-8 NEAC, while the Nittany Lions improved to 9-9, 7-2.
How it Happened: Penn College took its first lead on a
Ja'Quela Dyer jumper to take a 7-6 lead and erased a five-point deficit late in the first quarter to take 13-12 advantage on a pair of
Lydia Albert free throws to end the period. Harrisburg used a 17-2 run to end the second quarter ahead 33-17 at halftime.
The Lions held a double-digit lead the entire third quarter and claimed a 58-45 advantage with 6:24 left in the game. Penn College answered with 12-2 run and got as close as three, 60-57, on an Albert three with 3:02 on the clock. Harrisburg went 7 of 8 from the line in the closing minute to fend off the Wildcats.
Inside the Box: Albert scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed six rebounds for Penn College. Dyer finished with 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Jayla Galbreath scored a team-high 22 points for Harrisburg.
Outside the Box: "
Lydia Albert was a sound basketball player this week, and showed her strengths as an astounding freshman player," Penn College
Britni Mohney said. "I am extremely proud of the team today because we were in a situation where we could've crumbled but we fought back.
"We started locking down on defense, and doing a better job of capitalizing on those opportunities. Today we showed heart, and as a coach that's all you can ever ask for. Our record doesn't define who we are as a team and how we've played this season thus far. We've taken great strides and I will continue to fight with this team to improve ourselves as a collective unit."
Up Next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 7 p.m., hosting Penn State Abington.
