Wildcats Pick Up Two Wins in Opening Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College picked up a pair wins through five games this week in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Wildcats knocked off Bethany College, 8-4, and dealt Lehman a 9-1 setback.
Nathan Holt and Ian Yon have both picked wins on the mound, while Brittan Kittle has been red-hot at the plate with 13 hits, 11 RBI, and five extra base hits – including two home runs.
 
Penn College 8, Bethany 4
How it Happened: Penn College scored two in the first and second innings to take a 4-2 lead, touched home in the fourth and added three runs in the sixth inning.
Inside the Box: Kittle finished with three hits, including a double and a homer, and knocked in four runs for Penn College. Jake Wagner picked three hits, while Colton Riley brought in two runs.
Holt fired a complete-game, with eight strikeouts, one walked, and allowed four earned runs.
 
Bethany 7, Penn College 3
How it Happened:   The Wildcats fell behind 4-0 after four innings of play.  The offense put the pressure on in the top of the 5th closing the gap to 4-3 but Bethany would go on to score three insurance wins over the next two innings to seal the 7-3 win.
Inside the Box:  Colton Riley led Penn College with a pair of hits and RBI.  Joe Fatzinger picked up the loss on the mound despite only giving up one earned run in five innings of work. 
 
Hood College 15, Penn College 2
How it Happened: Hood College broke open a 5-2 game in the top of the 7th inning as they plated four runners to increase their lead to 9-2.  The Blazers would go on to score six more over the final two innings to complete the 15-2 win.
Inside the Box: Kittle led the way for the Wildcats from the plate with a 3 for 4 performance.  Justin Porter took the loss as he allowed five earned runs over five innings pitched.
 
Penn College 9, Lehman College 1
How it Happened:  Penn College pounded out 14 hits and nine runs as they snapped their two-game losing skid against Lehman College.
Inside the Box:  The Wildcats had five players with multi-hit efforts on the day.  Jacob Carles finished with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Kittle smacked his second homer of the Spring.  Ian Yon won his first game after seven innings on the mound.

Catholic 11, Penn College 7
How it Happened:  Catholic jumped out to an 8-0 lead through three innings, and added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Penn College went on the board in the fourth with a run and tacked on four more through the seventh, before adding a pair in the ninth.
Inside the Box: Kittle went 4 of 5 from the plate with four RBI, including a double and a home run. Shane Price added two home runs for the Wildcats, who totaled 11 hits in the game.
Luis Rodriquez took the loss after three innings of work.

Outside the Box: ""Our freshmen are getting more comfortable as they get more games under their belt," Penn College coach Chris Howard said. "We've been getting solid pitching performances all week and we are starting to see a lot of good swings from our hitters. I like our defense and I'm excited to see where we take this season."

Up Next: Penn College finishes off the week with a doubleheader against Albertus Magnus Wednesday and single game against Penn State Schuylkill Thursday.
