Wildcats split doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Bridgewater State and Manhattanville Monday. The Wildcats are 3-3 following a 13-10 setback to Bridgewater and a 17-16 win over Manhattanville.

Against Bridgewater,
Bridgewater built an 11-3 lead through five innings.  The Wildcats put up three runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Anthony Barbella and an error. BC took a 13-6 lead in the seventh before Jacob Carles' two-run homer in the eighth pulled Penn College within five, 13-8.

Nathan Gustkey collected five hits for Penn College, while Tyler Rudolph and Carles picked up multiple hits.

Ben Bretzman started for Penn College and went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs on nine hits and striking out seven. Andrew Snyder and Kevin Cute entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and two innings respectively.

Against Manhattanville,
Conner Burke's walk-off double in the ninth plated the winning run in a slugfest for Penn College.

MC took an early 5-0 lead through two innings before Penn College tacked on seven runs after the fourth inning. Manhattanville built its lead to 16-9 through the top of the eighth before Penn College exploded in the bottom of the eighth with seven runs to tie the game. Carles, Shane Price, Tyler Rudolph, Evan Nagy, Brian Robison, and Wagner each had RBIs in the big inning.

Penn College tallied 19 hits in the game. Cameron Dick, Carles, Rudolph each picked up three hits – including a homer for Carles while, Burke, Wagner, and Tristan Current each racked up two hits.

Samuel Zeigler earned the victory on the hill for PCT after one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs while walking one. Joel Verrico, Zak Underkoffler, and Gabe Reptsik all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
