Box Score 4 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College's baseball team won its first three games during its Spring Break trip before finishing the week at 4-4.
Against Hilbert,
Penn College opened the season with a 7-6 win over Hilbert. A four-run sixth inning helped the Wildcats break a 2-2 deadlock and a passed ball in the 10th inning plated the eventual winning run.
Against Eastern Nazarene,
Dallas Griess picked up three hits, knocked in two runs and scored a pair.
Nate Gustkey and
Jaiden Augustine each added two hits, while
Quinn Hanafin brought in two runs.
Mason Balfanz started the game and fired 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.
Dennis Prestash earned the win, and
Parker White picked up the save.
Penn College improved to 3-0 with a sweep over Eastern Nazarene Monday. The Wildcats totaled four home runs – two from
Dallas Griess and one from
Quinn Hanafin and
Adam Aldenderfer.
Jonas McGrath and
Ryan Sawyer picked up wins on the bump and
Gabe Reptsik earned a save.
Agaisnt Penn State DuBois and Westminster,
The Wildcats took a 4-0 lead against Penn State DuBois Tuesday morning with a run in the first and three in the second. A sacrifice fly from
Matt Munoz in the first, and a single by
Shawn Townsend, and doubles by
Jaiden Augustine and
Quinn Hanafin in the second, gave PCT its lead. The Nittany Lions tied the game with a grand slam in the third and tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.
Townsend finished with three hits and Hanafin added a pair.
Penn College dropped a 12-1 decision to Westminster Tuesday afternoon.
Against Penn State Hazelton,
The Wildcats halted their three-game skid with a 10-9 extra inning win against Penn State Hazelton Thursday.
Jaiden Augustine was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 10
th inning with the bases loaded to bring in the winning run.
Shawn Townsend went 4-for-6,
Logan Hinnershitz and
Matt Munoz each picked up three hits, and
Quinn Hanafin and
Brandon Shane both added a pair of hits.
Shane brought in three runs, while Augustine and Hanafin brought in two.
Griffin Vollman picked up his first win after firing the final two innings. He struck out two and allowed no hits or walks.
Against WPI,
Penn College took a 1-0 lead on
Adam Aldenderfer's single in the first before WPI added a run in the bottom of the first and the second.
Brandon Shane's RBI in the third tied the game but WPI plated four in the third.
Anthony Barbella brought in the Wildcats final run in the fifth.
Shane and Agustine both finished with two hits for PCT.
