BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Penn College's Peyton Mussina shot a 74 on Friday, ending four days of competition in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at 286, tied for 17th in the country.
How it happened: Mussina opened his final round with three birdies, five pars and a bogey while carding a 2-under 34 on the front 9 over the par 72, 7,377-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course. In fourth place, with 5 holes to go on the back 9 after a birdie, par, bogey, birdie start, he closed 5 over with a 40.
For the tournament Mussina averaged a 4.50 (-8) on par-5 holes which was tied for the 12th best in the field. He also averaged 3.52 on par-3s and 4.05 on par-4s. Mussina was tied for sixth on the course with 17 birdies and carded 43 pars across the four-day championship.
The field: Mike O'Sullivan of Oglethorpe won the individual championship with a 276 while Cooper Hrabak of Methodist University was second at 277 and Griffin Pohl of Illinois Wesleyan and Brian Xu of Carnegie-Mellon shared third at 280 in a 96-player field.
Methodist University claimed the team crown with a 1,131 to second-place Carnegie-Mellon's 1,132.
