HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — Penn College finished 39th in a 43-team field at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday, improving its position by two places over last year, but failing to make the team cut in its fifth trip to nationals since 2021.
How it happened: The Wildcats shot an opening-round 24-over-par 308 on the par-71, 6,820-yard Mission Resort Los Colinas course as play that began on Tuesday was suspended by storms and carried over to Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon, the team finished with a 36-over 324 on the par-72, 6,778-yard El Campeon course for a 632 total.
On the links: Individually, Chase Dillman led the team with a 13-over 156 total (73-83), tied for 155th. Following were Brady Handy at 15-over 158 (75-83), tied for 171st; Gunner Redmond 16-over 159 (79-80), tied for 177th; Logan Gawlinski 16-over 159 (81-78), tied for 177th; and Brett Keenan 32-over 175 (83-92), at 220th. Only the low four scores count toward the team total.
The field: Illinois Wesleyan held the top team spot by three shots after two rounds with a 567 total and leads a field trimmed to 18 for the final two days of competition. Individually, Ryan Dunn, of Oglethorpe, is 6-under at 137 after two rounds, with a one-stroke lead over three others headed into Thursday and Friday.
