Amber Savage Named Head Softball Coach

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Amber Savage has been selected as Penn College's head softball coach, the institution announced Friday.

Savage spent the past eight years as the Vice President and Head Coach of the Silver Bullets, a highly competitive travel softball organization based in Williamsport. She played competitively for the Silver Bullets as a teen and helped develop the organization into one of the premier travel programs in the region. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Savage managed various aspects of the organization's operations and was heavily involved in the college recruiting process for her players.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Savage to the Wildcat Family," Penn College Director of Athletics Scott Kennell said. "Our softball program has a very solid foundation, and I fully believe Coach Savage will continue to build upon the success that has already been created."

Following her impressive scholastic career at Williamsport High School, Savage (then Amber Cowher) had a standout career at Bloomsburg University. She was a four-year starting pitcher and was named the NCAA Rookie of the Year in 2001, as well as the NCAA Regional Most Valuable Player, first team All-PSAC, first team all-region, and NCAA Second Team All-American. She is still listed in all the Huskies career pitching records.

Savage was inducted into the District IV Hall of Fame 2012, West Branch Valley Hall of Fame in 2021, and was a 2023 YWCA Women of Excellence award winner in the sports category for her "remarkable contributions to the development, encouragement and reinforcement of women and girls' participation in sports".

"I am incredibly honored to accept the Head Softball Coaching position at Penn College. I am eager to get to work and share my passion and love of the game with the squad and community, on and off the field," Savage said. "Penn College offers an excellent student-athlete experience. I am blessed to get to be a part of that and continue the successful traditions the program has achieved. It's an exciting time to be a Wildcat!"
