Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – The Penn College women's basketball team fell short, 68-61, to Notre Dame of Maryland in a United East Conference game on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats dropped to 1-1 UE, 9-5 overall while the Gators improved to 3-0 UE, 6-6 overall.
How it happened: The Wildcats got off to a strong start with a 14-9 opening quarter fueled by seven points from
Gigi Parlante while
Kenni Galbreath hit a three and
RaeAnna Andreas and
Breana Valentine both providing points in the first frame. In the second quarter,
Kayla Herzer and Valentine hit back-to-back layups to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the day at 24-13 with 5:38 to go.
The Gators closed the first half on a 14-10 run as the Wildcats held on to a 32-27 lead at the break and outscored PCT 24-12 in the third quarter to take a 51-44 lead into the fourth.
Penn College pulled within three points (53-50) on a
Mia Patterson layup with 7:54 to go and Parlante got the Wildcats within two (59-57) at the 1:38 mark but the Gators held on down the stretch.
Inside the box: Parlante finished with a team-high 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks and was joined in double-digit scoring by
RaeAnna Andreas who scored 10 points and distributed a team-high five assists. Valentine finished with seven points, seven rebounds and poked away a game-high six steals.
Notre Dame was led by Amani Watts who poured in a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double.
