WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a men's and women's tennis sweep against College of Saint Elizabeth Thursday. The men improved to 1-0 NEAC, 3-5 overall, while the women improved to 1-0, 1-7.
In the women's meet,
The Eagles won the first two singles competitions and took the No. 1 double match.
Delayna Deem won No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0,
Amber Janelli earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4,
Emily Bell picked up a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, and
Hanna Williams won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
Meghan Herman and Janelli teamed up to win No. 2 doubles 8-2, and Bell and Williams won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In the men's meet
Luke Whitenight got the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles for Penn College,
Blake Whitmire earned a competitive 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and
Garrett Benner won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
Nicholas Pascual's 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 made it 4-0, while
Will DeMarco picked up an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 and
Joseph Morrin picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Whitmire and Whitenight teamed up for an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles, Demarco and Benner won 8-0 at No. 2 and Pascual and Morrin earned an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Penn College returns to action Monday hosting Misericordia.
