STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Competing Saturday and Sunday in the Penn State Division III Challenge, Penn College golfers combined for a two-day 656 total and finished fourth in a six-team field. Alex Acree led the way for the Wildcats with rounds of 84-76—160 and placed eighth individually.
How it happened: Acree was 17 over par on the par 72, 6,605-yard Penn State Blue Course (Saturday) and par 71, 6,328-yard Penn State White Course (Sunday). Also for Penn College, Will Orwig shot 84-79—163 and Gavin Bair shot 80-83—163, both tied for 16th; Sean McNamara had rounds of 87-86—173, placing 26th; and Trevor Keaton had rounds of 84-90—174, tied for 27th.
The field: Penn State Harrisburg took top team honors with a 319-312—631. Individually, Mike Festa, of Penn State Abington, medaled after shooting 74-75—149 in a 36-player field. Following PS Harrisburg in the team standings were Penn State Abington, 322-322—644; Penn State Altoona, 321-324—645; Penn College; Penn State Behrend, 335-322—657; and Penn State Berks, 337-323—660.
Up next: Penn College is scheduled to compete in the at Elizabethtown College Spring Invitational at Hershey Country Club at noon on Thursday.
