WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Despite the loss of two key players from the three-time defending United East Conference Champion lineup, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's golf team looks to be restocked and ready for another championship and NCAA run in the spring.
The Wildcats are coming off a fall season that included winning their fourth consecutive United East Fall Preview under coach Rob Lytle. During seven fall multi-team outings, six of them two-day tournaments, they also claimed one other first and one third-place finish.
In 13 fall rounds, senior Gunner Redmond, of Lock Haven, led the team with a 75 scoring average. He medaled in the eight-team Fall Preview and tied for second at another event. Also in the fall, freshman Chase Dillman, of Boyertown, had a scoring average of 77; junior Brady Handy, of Huntingdon, averaged 79.4; junior Brett Keenan, of Plymouth Meeting, averaged 82.3; and junior Logan Gawlinski, of Kittanning, averaged 83.1.
Included in the spring schedule is the Swarthmore Invitational, a 54-hole test with 18 holes on the first day and 36 on the second.
"I've got everybody back. Our goal is to win the conference championship," Lytle said. "Over the winter, we were in the gym, we were lifting, we were practicing, we were hitting inside. We're ready to go. We know the deal, all of these guys do, even my freshmen are saying, 'we want to keep it going.' "
In a preseason poll of the conference's coaches, the Wildcats earned the top spot with seven first-place votes. Following them are Lancaster Bible College, Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State Berks, Rutgers-Camden, Penn State Abington, Wilson College and Penn State Brandywine.
