ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. — Led by Peyton Mussina's individual first-place 71, the Penn College men's golf team captured the United East Conference Fall Preview on Tuesday with a 314 score. The win was the Wildcats first in a conference event since they captured the spring championship in April 2021.
How it happened: Mussina, a sophomore, shot even par on the 6,485-yard Hanover Country Club course. Also for Penn College, Gavin Baer shot a 79 to tie for sixth, Will Orwig carded an 81 to tie for 10th, Trevor Keaton shot an 83 to tie for 14th and Gunner Redmond tallied an 84 for 16th in a 34-player field. Only the top four scores count toward the team total.
The field: Following Penn College in the team standings were Rosemont, 323; Rutgers-Camden, 334; Penn State Harrisburg, 339; Lancaster Bible College, 344; Penn State Abington, 349; and Wilson College, 374.
Coach speak: "It was nice. We've been on the road for three days and it was nice. It was a good day overall," coach Rob Lytle said. "I'm super proud of Peyton, he's been working hard on his game and he's been playing well. It was nice to win today but it's just another step in our process of trying to get better every day. I want to have a successful Penn College golf program and we're laying the groundwork now."
