WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Penn College's Alex Norris, playing at No. 1 men's singles, reached Sunday's semifinal in the King's College Invitational and finished the two-day event with a 1-1 record.
How it happened: Norris defeated Susquehanna's Alex Baker in his first match
on Saturday, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4, then squared off against King's College's Logan Gregory in Sunday's semi, where he lost, 6-0, 6-0. Gregory went on to finish second.
Inside the box: Losing their opening matches and finishing 0-1 for the Wildcats were Hunter Knosky at No. 2 singles,
Matt Williams at No. 3 singles, Will Long at No. 4 singles,
Cruz Nagle at No. 5 singles and
Stuart Dare at No. 6 singles. Williams had the most competitive singles match against a player from Elizabethtown as he lost 2-6, 6-0, 5-10 (tiebreaker). In doubles, Norris-Dare at No. 1, Knosky-Williams at No. 2 and Long-Nagle at No. 3 all went 0-1.
Coach speak: "Nerves came into play, and I got to watch them for the first time under that kind of competition. With experience, they will get better," first-year coach David Straub said after the team's opener.
